Zainab Osama, a She Codes Too graduate from Dhi Qar Governorate, joined the DataCamp Donate Scholarship with clear goals: to master data analysis, visualization, and the foundations of machine learning. As one of 30 participants in the 6-month program (January–June 2025), Zainab not only built strong technical skills in Python, SQL, and data visualisation but also gained confidence, resilience, and a powerful support network. Here, she shares her story of growth, challenges, and aspirations for the future.

When I first heard about the DataCamp Donate scholarship through She Codes Too, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to grow my skills in data and open new professional doors. I had been looking for a program that combined practical learning with a strong community, and this was exactly it. I set a clear goal for myself: to master data analysis, visualisation, and the basics of machine learning.

I began my journey by taking courses in Python, SQL and an Introduction to Machine Learning. Along the way.

My favorite part of the journey was diving into data visualization and machine learning, where I could combine technical precision with creativity to tell impactful stories through data. Time management was a challenge at first, but I overcame it by setting a weekly learning schedule with small, achievable goals that kept me motivated

The support from She Codes Too was invaluable. From motivational messages and useful resources to engaging discussions with fellow learners, I always felt encouraged to push forward. The guest speaker sessions offered real-world insights into how data science is applied in the industry and gave me a clearer vision of my career path. What made this community truly special was the sense of sisterhood and mutual support—it’s a space that believes in your potential and pushes you to succeed.

Today, I feel much more confident working with data. I’m proud of mastering Python, SQL, and visualization tools, earning multiple certificates from DataCamp, and completing real-world data projects. While I haven’t yet secured a role in the field, I am actively applying for internships and freelance opportunities with a strong skill set and a clear direction

I believe programs like this can make a huge difference for women in Iraq and beyond. They remove barriers to education, provide world-class learning, and inspire women to thrive in tech. My advice to anyone considering joining She Codes Too is: Go for it without hesitation. You will gain skills, confidence, and a powerful network that supports you every step of the way.
