This intensive 6-month bootcamp, running from April to November 2023, was implemented by She Codes Too and funded by the UNDP program in Iraq with support from BBS.

Program Overview

The She Codes Too program offered a comprehensive curriculum covering front-end web development fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), advanced JavaScript concepts, React framework for building real projects with APIs and data, and full website and project development. Additionally, the program provided one-on-one mentoring to support students' learning, capstone project implementation, and soft skills and career development sessions

Zahraa's Experience

What motivated you to apply for the She Codes Too program?

During my third year of university, I applied for the She Codes Too front-end web development program because I wanted to learn something new to help with my graduation project. I decided to give this program a shot, seeing it as an opportunity to challenge myself and enhance my skills.

How would you describe your learning journey?

The experience was one of a kind. I met so many amazing people that I'm still in touch with. I learned front-end web development from scratch, and the learning process was very enjoyable. The trainers of the bootcamp provided information in a fun and compelling way, helping me see programming from a different perspective.

What challenges did you face during the program?

It was challenging to balance being a student while attending the bootcamp, as it was very intensive and required constant learning and coding. However, I managed to work through it, persevering despite the demanding schedule.

Can you share some memorable moments from the program?

One of the best memories was the project presentations, both mid-projects and final capstone project. Despite facing many bugs and errors, the final product was worth it. I still remember how we stayed up all night working and solving problems with each other and with the trainers. I remember going to SCT community on Discord, and there'd be like three study rooms in session, each with a Teaching Assistant or a trainer. There are also a bunch of girls who are part of the program. But what really stuck with me is how, when we finally finished the presentation and everything, we were so happy and just hung out together, celebrating our hard work.

How has the program impacted your career?

She Codes Too helped me find my career path and figure out what I wanted to do. After graduating from the bootcamp, I landed an interview then got the job as front end developer at IQ Dev House, a private tech company in Iraq, which was an great experience that enhanced my skills and boosted my confidence. I worked for three months there but I had to leave the job to focus on completing my university final year project and take my exams. After graduating from university, I am now working as a Front-End Developer at a tech company in Iraq.

What advice would you give to future participants of She Codes Too programs?

My last words for new participants are to make every moment count because it'll be one of the best experiences ever. It'll be a fun ride with some bumps along the way!
