Riyam’s Data Journey From Code to Confidence with She Codes Too

line

Riyam Hazim, a developer from Iraq with a passion for learning and a growing curiosity about AI, took a bold step by applying for the She Codes Too + DataCamp scholarship. Her journey through the program deepened her confidence in data, connected her with a supportive community of women, and helped her envision new ways to bridge tech and innovation. The scholarship ran from January to June 2025 and supported 30 women from across Iraq through structured tracks in Python, SQL, and data analytics.

I was placed into amazing learning tracks like Data Analyst with Python, Associate Data Scientist, and Data Scientist in Python.

Each one gave me deeper insight into the data world, and I especially enjoyed the full process of working with data from cleaning, training, testing, to choosing the right model. Even the SQL courses were so valuable and well designed.

The support throughout the program was honestly one of the highlights.

Everyone was so kind, helpful, and encouraging, it never felt like I was doing it alone. It truly felt like learning among friends. The sessions, the resources, the community — everything helped me grow, not just technically but personally too. And I can’t forget to mention how amazing the other girls were, such a motivating group to be part of.

As for challenges, I didn’t face any major ones, but I did gain a lot of confidence in working with data which I’m really proud of.

I also earned several certificates that I truly value. I’m not actively job-hunting yet, because I want to keep practicing and building, but with the skills and tools I’ve gained, I know I’ll be more than ready when the time comes.

And I can say with confidence … Programs like She Codes Too really can change lives.

In places like Iraq, where women are still finding their space in tech, having this kind of support means everything. It’s not just about learning how to code, it’s about building confidence, finding a supportive community, and realizing that you do belong in tech. For so many women, it can be the first step toward chasing their dreams, starting something of their own, or simply finding the courage to speak up and take space in a field that hasn’t always made room for them.

So to anyone considering applying, please do it

Even if you’re nervous or unsure, just be curious and open to learning. You’ll be surprised how much you can do when you’re in a space that supports you. I’m so happy I joined! This program didn’t just teach me new skills, it helped me see myself in a whole new way. I’m really grateful I went for it.
